The race is a city-wide scavenger hunt with no predetermined routes or order of completion. Everyone who enters gets a prize but top finishers in each category receive a custom-made trophy from local artisans.

1PM – “Foraging Fundamentals” by Jim Schwiebert, Beaver Creek Reserve Naturalist

  • Join Beaver Creek naturalist Jim Schwiebert for a taste of some wild edibles.  We’ll look at a slide presentation of plants to eat throughout the spring and summer, and then sample a few.  A list of some plants to try and their use will be provided. “As a naturalist, I have the freedom to explore a lot of topics. Foraging for wild edibles has always intrigued me, and ever since reading "My Side of the Mountain" as a young boy, my dream has been to live off the land."  I haven’t quite gotten there yet, but I do enjoy my share of wild foods.  Come and join in for a taste from the wild!”

2PM - "Bicycle Basics" presented by Justin Mengal from EC Velo

  • Bicycle Basics is a basic bicycle maintenance clinic that will help you keep your bike running smoothly. At this session we'll learn basic bicycle anatomy, common issues, excellent cleaning products and easy adjustment techniques so you can keep your bike running smoothly.

3PM – “All of This & Robins Too: Wisconsin's Richness of Birds” presented by Steve Betchkal, President of the Gaylord Nelson Audubon Society

  • Birds add to the quality of our lives in so many ways: they're colorful, they're fascinating, they eat bugs, and they add music to our world. Wisconsin supports more than 400 species of wild birds, but how well do you know them? Bird expert Steve Betchkal explores some amazing facts about birds -- from migration to anatomy, with a healthy dose of humor and conservation.

4PM – "Enjoying Your Garden Year-Round" presented by Laurel Kieffer

  • Join Laurel Kieffer, Dream Valley Farm LLC, Strum, to explore ways to enjoy your gardens all year round.  Gardening has always been part of Laurel’s life starting as a very young child in her grandfather’s garden.  She has practiced intensive companion planting including apartment patio gardening, traditional garden plots, raised beds, terraces, and greenhouse gardens.  Her pantries and freezers are filled with canned, frozen, dried and fermented foods. This session will overview ways that everyone who has a passion for it, can be a gardener.
